JOAN WALTON – our Dance Mistress for the Viennese Nights Ball – pays her yearly visit to the Casa to kick off a very special weekend of vintage dance in San Diego.
On the eve of the Ball, Joan will teach us TRANSITIONS & NON-TURNING VARIATIONS in Waltz and Polka!
All skill levels welcome; partners not required.

Optimize your experience at the Viennese Nights Ball, with this gem of a “boot camp” from the event’s Dance Mistress herself!  JOAN WALTON will teach the basics of waltzes, polkas, etc., offering tips for all levels of dancers. She’ll also cover the specialty dances and mixers slated for the evening. Truly a must-do, and a great way to meet potential dance partners!

Waltz & Such and the SD Vintage Dance Society are thrilled to host their 21st annual beloved tradition:

Viennese Nights!

San Diego’s own Grand Pacific Waltz Orchestra, with Mr. Joe Dyke conducting, plays LIVE authentic period music for waltzes, polkas, mixers, and more. Internationally renowned vintage dance historian Joan Walton will precept. She will also teach an all-levels “Survival Waltz” workshop prior to the ball (11-1 pm, $15), including the specialty and called dances of the evening. The workshop is highly recommended for a more enjoyable ball experience, and the best way to meet potential dance partners.

NOTE: This ball is a formal event, with ladies in long gowns and men in suits, tailcoats, or tuxedos. No casual wear or short hemlines, please. Spike heels and floor-marking soles are also not allowed on our beautiful dance floor.
